Mountain Hiking.

This is one of the must-do activities in Congo. Hiking one of the most active volcanic mountains on earth-Mount Nyiragongo, with a blazing crater lake. Mountain Nyiragongo is one of the eight mountains forming the giant Virunga chain of mountains and it is found near the historic Virunga national park.

D.R. Congo has two species of eastern gorillas, which are human-like creatures that can only be found in the African continent. The endangered mountain gorillas of Virunga national park and the Eastern lowland gorillas of Kahuzi-Biega national park. Gorilla trekking takes place all year, beginning with a briefing exercise by ranger guides before sunrise. Virunga National Park is one of Africa’s oldest and largest national parks, with a quarter of the world’s Mountain Gorillas living in the Virunga chain of mountains, as well as two active volcanic summits.

Congo offers the cheapest Gorilla trekking option, in comparison to their counterparts-Uganda and Rwanda. The permit costs 400usd for each person aged 15 years and above, per day.

Wildlife viewing.

Need to see different birds, primates, reptiles, the prey and predators in their natural habitat; taking a wildlife safari to the Congo national parks is a perfect option. Congo has elephants, Buffaloes, warthogs, hyenas and more. These can be spotted while on a game drive, guided nature walks, or boat cruise.

The best time to visit D.R. Congo is during the dry months of June to September and December to February, though attraction sites are open for visitors are open year-round. Birding watching is best done in the rainy months because it is when lots more birds can be encountered.
