2 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trek

The 2 Days Gorilla trek in Rwanda takes you to Rwanda’s top tourist attraction and man’s closest relatives – endangered mountain gorillas. These are gentle, but giant apes harbored in the mountainous ranges of the Virunga chain of mountains.

Rwanda hosts a quarter of their total world’s population in Volcanoes national park; northeastern region of the country. You will visit and track these relatives of yours in their natural habitat, uncovering their unique behaviors, family structure, feeding habits and so much more. It is an activity to always remember. Rwanda is beautified by rolling hills, green vegetation cover and seamless road network. The trip starts and ends in Kigali – Rwanda. Other additional activities include a city tour in Kigali, visiting the twin lakes and sight – seeing.

Detailed gorilla tour.

On this day, you will be picked by our company representative at the agreed point and time. The briefing then follows, with description about the trip, as well as other important details you ought to know. Thereafter, you will have a simple Kigali city tour and lunch, visiting the Genocide Memorial center to pay tribute to the bodies of over 250,000 Tutsis who lost their lives during the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.

You will also visit the local markets in Kimironko to purchase a few missing items and Rwanda crafts, before hitting the road on a 2-3-hour scenic drive to Volcanoes national park, with rewarding views of rolling hills, plantations and homesteads. Check-in at your lodge before sunset for dinner and night stay.

Optional activity: A visit to the twin lakes – Burera and Ruhondo at the base of Virunga mountains.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and departure.

Start your morning with a hefty early breakfast at the lodge, and then checkout for a transfer to Volcanoes national park headquarters at Kinigi for a pre-trekking briefing and the ultimate trekking exercise will begin thereafter. Ranger guides will welcome all guests, verify the trekking documents and state the trekking dos and Don’ts during a 30 minutes’ briefing session. A maximum of eight people will be assigned one habituated gorilla family, from which they will track for over 2-6 hours, depending on how far the gorilla family has moved.

The jungle is a cocktail of rugged hills, bushes, shrubs and tall trees, which you will have to go through to find the apes. There are other primates, birds and forest mammals that you will encounter during the search. You will spend an hour with the gorillas, taking photos and watching them play, feed and interact. A gorilla family is led by one dominant silverback who is responsible for providing protection, find fresh pasture and demarcate territories.

After the search, you will depart the forest for your packed lunch and then a drive back to Kigali international airport for drop-off and departure.

End of Safari.
