Farm visits, spending overnights in homestays, traditional beer brewing demonstrations, guided tours through banana plantations, local milking processes and Museum tours are some of the authentic cultural experiences you should expect from this 10 days Cultural Safari in Uganda and Rwanda.</p><p><strong>Safari in details.</strong></p><p><strong>Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and drop-off at Kampala Hotel.</strong></p><p>On jetting-into Uganda via Entebbe International Airport, our Company representative will be already at the Airport with placards waiting to welcome you into the country. Afterwards you will be driven to your place of stay within the Capital (Kampala).</p><p><strong>Day 2: City tour &#8211; Lubiri Royal Palace and Amin’s Torture Chambers.</strong></p><p>Start the second day with a Continental breakfast at your Kampala Hotel then pick-up by your safari driver. Afterwards leave the Hotel and head to Mengo, one of the original seven hills of Kampala and location of Lubiri Royal Palace. Set up in 1885, Lubiri is the historical/official residence of King (Kabaka) of Buganda. A visit to this site offers visitors the opportunity of learning about the interesting history of the most popular Kingdom in Uganda in addition to exploring Amin’s Torture Chambers. If time permits, also check-out the man-made Kabaka’s Lake a stone throw from the Palace. Enjoy lunch from one of the City eateries before continuing for your next cultural experience.</p><p>After delicious Lunch, continue to Kasubi Royal Tombs, final resting place for four of Buganda’s former Kings. You will be mesmerized by the spiritual, historical and traditional value of the site. Close the day with a cultural dance performance at the Kasubi Royal Tombs and drive back to your Hotel for a lovely dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 3: Kampala to Nshenyi Village, over 340 kilometers and 6 hours’ drive</strong></p><p>Hotel pick-up in the morning and proceed to Nshenyi Village, about 340 kilometers and 6 hours’ drive from the Capital. A stopover at Uganda Equator to stretch legs, enjoy a cup of coffee and take photos at the monumental landmark as well as en-route Lunch.</p><p>En-route also enjoy the beautiful sceneries and vibrant faces of roadside Ugandans going about their daily hustles. On arrival, get checked-in and settle in at the Farm Guest House for a traditional dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 4: Guided Nshenyi Village tours (spraying cattle, milking and ghee making).</strong></p><p>Breakfast then undertake guided tours of Nshenyi Farm village with a myriad of cultural activities to undertake. In the morning as the cattle leave their enclosures/Kraals take part in hand-milking them. Later participate in traditional ghee making where you will even enjoy a meal with typical Ugandan ghee.</p><p>After your Lunch, head for a one-hour walk to the cattle watering area where with the help of local guides you will also participate in watering the animals. The activity is exciting and trust our judgment that you will love and enjoy it. In the evening settle for a performance from the Traditional dance group, dinner and overnight stay at the Farm Guest House.</p><p><strong>Day 5: Nshenyi Village to Kisoro Town.</strong></p><p>Start this beautiful day early with breakfast at your place of stay at Nshenyi Village Farm then proceed to Kisoro district through Kabale town, south-western Uganda. Arrive late in the evening for overnight and dinner.</p><p><strong>Day 6: Kisoro Town-Kigali City.</strong></p><p>After breakfast, leave the Town of Kisoro for Kigali City. It takes about 4-5 hours including processing border procedures and continue to your booked Hotel for late Lunch, dinner and overnight. Rest and relax at the Hotel for the remainder of the evening while preparing for the start of your Rwandan cultural experience.</p><p><strong>Day 7: Tour the Richard Kandt House Museum, Nyamata and Ntarama Churches (Genocide Memorial Centers).</strong></p><p>On this day at 7:00am, you will be picked up from your Kigali Hotel and head to the Kandt House Museum on Nyarugenge Hill within the Capital. The structure housing this Museum was built in 1907 and was the former home of Richard Kandt- a German physician and Explorer to Africa. It displays the evolution of life, description of fauna and flora in the country’s main Parks and many others.</p><p>Later be served a sumptuous meal at your Hotel then continue for tours of the Genocide Memorial Sites within the City. These two Churches introduce visitors to the traumatic 1994 Genocide history of Rwanda. Later return to your Hotel for a moment of relaxation, dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 8: Drive to Musanze district then undertake a tour of the Caves</strong></p><p>A hefty breakfast is a perfect way to start this day, then continue to Musanze district, at the Northern province of Rwanda. Drive straight to the popular Musanze Caves, believed to have existed for over 65 million years.</p><p>Learn about this magnificent natural wonder and hidden gem, how it was used as a hiding place during the 1994 Rwanda Genocide as well as the fact that it is beautifully designed with stair-like features. Overnight and lovely moonlight dinner at one of the stunning accommodation facilities in Musanze.</p><p><strong>Day 9: All-day tour at the Gorilla Guardian Village</strong></p><p>You will dedicate the entire day to exploring about Rwandan culture through the visit to Gorilla Guardian Village. A range of cultural activities are organized here and they include traditional banana beer brewing, touring the replica of the King’s Palace to learn about the rich history of Rwanda, learn about traditional hunting, learn how to prepare local foods and even dine with the locals, visits to the traditional medicine man, traditional dance performances and end the day with a match with the local team. At sunset return to the same place of stay (as previous night) for dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 10: Drive back to the City of Kigali</strong></p><p>Have breakfast and be driven back to the City for a proper City tour exploring more of popular tourist sites and do last shopping before being dropped-off at the Airport. From Kigali city, the first place to visit will be Akagera National Park &#8211; the only savanna park in Rwanda with a collection of variety of Flora and Fauna and best for game viewing and boat ride at Lake Ihema.</p><p>Proceed to the primate hub of Rwanda &#8211; Nyungwe national park, home to 13 unique primate species including chimpanzee. It is also home to the famed canopy walk adventure.</p><p>The final destination is Volcanoes national park &#8211; an asylum to the rare mountain Gorillas found only in the continent of Africa. Other safari highlights include observing the magical conical hills, Kigali city, lakes, tall mountains, Genocide sites and hospitable Rwandan people.</p><p><strong>Detailed trip.</strong></p><p><strong>Day 1: Arrival and optional Kigali city tour.</strong></p><p>Upon arrival in the “Land of A thousand Hills&#8221; &#8211; Rwanda, your safari guide will happily welcome you for the 8 days Rwanda safari. This starts with a briefing and some clearances in the airport and then a transfer to the lodge will follow for some refreshments from the long Journey.</p><p>Immediately start the journey to Akagera national park, offering stunning sceneries in the northeastern part of Rwanda. You may have an option of taking a tour around Kigali city, and visit the historical and cultural destinations like Genocide memorial site and the local markets. The day ends at the lodge with dinner and a peaceful sleep.</p><p><strong>Day 2: Game drive and Boat cruise at Lake Ihema.</strong></p><p>From having a peaceful nap, you will depart the lodge for a rewarding 3-4 hour game drive and photo moments in the northern part of the park. This is home to some big and small cats, birds, and reptiles among others. You will be looking out for the African elephants, cape Buffaloes, rhinos, waterbucks, giraffes, recently introduced lions and the bushbucks among others. The safari draws you to Mother Nature and can last for 3 – 4 hours depending on how fast you spot animals.</p><p>After the game drive, return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon boat cruise at Lake Ihema for some time, while spotting hippos and crocodiles. The day ends with dinner and overnight at sunset.</p><p><strong>Day 3: Depart Akagera National park for Nyungwe national park.</strong></p><p>After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, you will check out for a transfer to the southern part of Rwanda – 7 hours’ scenic drive, while admiring the undulating hills, flourishing plantations and the locals carrying on with their daily chores. You will have an enroute stopover at the Former Rwanda national Museum (now ethnographic museum) in Butare to learn more about the culture and history of Rwanda. Lunch will be in Huye city, before proceeding with an evening drive to your lodge near the park for dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 4: Morning Chimp tracking and Afternoon canopy walk.</strong></p><p>After a sunrise hefty breakfast, with packed snacks and trekking documents depart for registration and pre &#8211; trekking briefing at the park headquarters. The ranger guides will gladly welcome and explain more about the chimps and tracking rules.</p><p>It is a 2-6 hour experience, with sounds and sights of chimpanzees and other primates like L&#8217;Hoest’s monkeys, Vervet monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, Rwenzori colobus monkeys and retailed monkeys. The search follows undesignated trails and one hour allowance is given to you to take photos and watch the apes play, feed and interact with each other.</p><p>You will get sorted with the exercise and then have a lunch break, before joining the rest of the visitors at Uwinka information center for a canopy walk experience. The activity is done on a 6-7 meter suspended bridge on treetop and exposes you to the stunning forest landscape, elusive birds and primates. End the day with dinner and overnight at your lodge.</p><p><strong>Day 5: Nyungwe National Park to Volcanoes National Park.</strong></p><p>Have a relaxed breakfast at the lodge, and checkout for a 350km drive to Volcanoes national park in Musanze region. The journey takes about 6-7 hours, with sights of differently sized hills and mountains, Congo-Nile drive, curving roads, green vegetation and Lake Kivu &#8211; country&#8217;s largest water body. You will have lunch break, before getting to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.</p><p><strong>Day 6: Track Gorillas in the Mist.</strong></p><p>After a yummy breakfast meal at the lodge, you will depart to Kinigi headquarters for a briefing and document verification by the ranger guides. You will be assigned a gorilla group to track, and also told the trekking dos and don&#8217;ts, after which the search begins. This unforgettable encounter lasts for roughly 2-7 hours, plus an additional hour for taking photos, asking questions and studying the apes.</p><p>The misty jungle is a safe place and the apes are calm. The tracking exercise starts from where they were spotted the previous day, following marks of a silverback. They are primarily vegetarians and spend most of their time moving from one territory to another, playing on tree branches and sleeping. Some level of physical fitness are expected for a successful adventure.</p><p>After the reunion, you will return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an optional cultural adventure at the gorilla guardians’ village or relaxing at the lodge while meditating on the apes, and the vacation vibes.</p><p><strong>Day 7: Relaxing on Lake Kivu shores.</strong></p><p>After a sunrise breakfast at the lodge, depart to the shores of Lake Kivu in Gisenyi, only one-hour drive away. It will be a day for evoking the beautiful images and safari thoughts while resting from the non-stop activities.</p><p>Lake Kivu is a beautiful place, known for stunning landscapes, serene environment, and cool air breeze. You may choose to soak yourself on the shores with some book, tour to the hot springs, or take a boat cruise to the inner islands. The journey begins in Uganda, with chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park, wildlife tour and a boat ride in Queen Elizabeth National Park in the western area.</p><p>The next stop after Uganda is Rwanda, Land of a thousand hills, for some rewarding mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and a city tour of Kigali. Accommodation, transportation, meals, water and safety are all guaranteed from the beginning to the end of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.</p><p><strong>Detailed tour.</strong></p><p><strong>Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Kibale forest National Park.</strong></p><p>Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be greeted by our driver guide, who will cordially greet and welcome you. You will be informed about the trip, including details on what will happen throughout the 7-day journey in two of Africa&#8217;s most popular safari areas.</p><p>You will travel west through Fort Portal City to the lush jungle of Kibale Forest National Park, an exhilarating 6-7 hours’ journey while admiring the scenery. Lunch will be served en route, and you will arrive at the lodge in the evening for refreshment, dinner, and a relaxing snooze.</p><p><strong>Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp / community walk.</strong></p><p>You&#8217;ll wake up to a hearty breakfast at the resort before heading to the park headquarters for a wonderful 2- to 5-hour Chimpanzee trekking excursion, which will begin with a pre-trekking briefing by an expert ranger guide. Before guiding you on your hunt across the Jungle, the guide will discuss the trekking dos and don&#8217;ts. Chimpanzees spend their time in the trees playing, moving, and relaxing.</p><p>There are 12 other primates, bird, and plant species to see in the forest, so you&#8217;ll see more than just chimps. Simply by concentrating on your relatives, you will locate them and spend an hour with them, snapping photographs and asking questions, before taking a lunch break.</p><p>After some rest, you&#8217;ll continue on a guided nature walk through Bigodi Swamp, where you&#8217;ll see additional primates including baboons, residents going about their everyday lives, and unusual plants. You&#8217;ll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at sunset.</p><p><strong>Day 3: Crater lakes tour and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.</strong></p><p>Following a dawn breakfast at the resort, you will depart to explore some of the crater lakes and plantations surrounding Uganda&#8217;s tourism capital, Fort Portal. The trip to Queen Elizabeth takes around 1.5 hours and includes views of the beautiful terrain, plantations, and seasonal rivers originating from mount. Rwenzori. You&#8217;ll arrive in the park and check-in to your lodge for lunch and refreshments before relaxing or going on a guided nature walk for the rest of the evening. Dinner and a relaxing nap round off the evening.</p><p><strong>Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise.</strong></p><p>You will depart for a wonderful 3-4 game drive throughout the kisenyi area and other parts of the savannah grassland after an early morning wakeup call from the early birds. The ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to a diverse range of vegetation and fauna, including the rare tree climbing lions. The game viewing period reveals the breathtaking environment as well as many grazers and hunters in the savannah cover, including lions, Cape Buffaloes, African elephants, warthogs, and a variety of antelope species. Rare Rwenzori Turacos, guinea-fowls, and other birds are among the species on display.</p><p>After the game drive, you will enjoy a Bush breakfast experience, and then return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, there will be a 3-hour boat cruise at Kazinga channel, while watching the hippos, aquatic birds and crocodiles among others. When all is done, call off the day with dinner and a peaceful nap.</p><p><strong>Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park via Kabale.</strong></p><p>This morning, you&#8217;ll start with a delicious breakfast at the resort before heading to Rwanda&#8217;s Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about 5-6 hours and includes views of beautiful landscapes, undulating hills, and plantations.</p><p>The journey may pass through the Ishasha sector, depending on the available time. Here the guide will expect everyone&#8217;s eyes to be locked on the tree branches for a period of time in the hopes of finding a tree climbing lion leisurely resting in the gigantic fig trees. As the drive continues to the foggy jungles of Volcanoes national park, lunch will be served in Kabale or Kihiihi town. A breathtaking sunset welcomes you to the lodge for refreshments, dinner, and a relaxing snooze.</p><p><strong>Day 6: Gorilla trekking.</strong></p><p>This morning, have a delectable breakfast at the lodge before heading to the park headquarters for a wonderful Gorilla trekking experience. An expert ranger guide gives a pre-trekking lecture, explaining the trekking laws and assigning a maximum of eight people to a Gorilla group to track. Gorillas are both peaceful and thrilling creatures, with almost 98 percent of their genes resembling those of humans. They can only be found in the tropical jungles of Africa, where they make their home. The tracking experience lasts about 2-6 hours after the briefing, plus an extra hour for photographing and questions. Gorillas live in groups, each led by a dominant silverback who poses and protects the family members.</p><p>You will return to the resort for lunch after the hiking, followed by relaxed afternoon at the lodge or an afternoon Musanze cave excursion. Musanze Cave is a historically significant cave in Rwanda, located about 2 kilometers from the Volcanoes National Park. The day will end with a hearty dinner and a relaxing siesta at the resort.</p><p><strong>Day 7: Kigali city tour and Departure.</strong></p><p>After an early morning breakfast you will transfer to Kigali city for your last taste of lunch and Rwanda tour. Expect a warm reception from everyone you get into contact with and be picked up by our Company representative who will also be your safari driver/guide for this trip. Time permitting, you will have a tour of the City of Kigali, focusing on the Kigali Genocide Site to learn about the 100-day of savage killing that took place in 1994, browse through several craft markets and later have lunch before you  proceed to the Northern Province for dinner and slumber.</p><p><strong>Day 2: Trekking Rwanda Gorillas within Volcanoes National Park</strong></p><p>A new day and a fresh start with breakfast at the Lodge before joining other passionate trekkers eagerly waiting to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of trekking one of the 12 habituated gorilla groups in Volcanoes National Park. Be briefed by the Ranger guide and in the company of other 7 trekkers be allocated to one habituated gorilla family which you will patiently and slowly trek for 1-4 hours before finally encountering its members and spending an allotted one hour to observe and photograph them. Trekkers with heavy backpacks are advised to hire the services of porters who charge only about $30 per person per trek and make sure that you have lunch box, snacks and enough drinking water before embarking on this trek.</p><p>In the evening relax with a book and magazine at the Lodge or with a refreshing boat ride on the Twin Lakes of Bulera and Ruhondo, then retire for dinner and slumber at the same Lodge.</p><p><strong>Day 3: Cross the Border to Goma Town then Virunga National Park</strong></p><p>Be up early for a cup of tea/coffee then leave for Goma, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and finally Virunga National Park. A hot sumptuous meal will be enjoyed on arrival at Goma. Dinner and overnight will be at any of the outstanding Lodges within Virunga National Park.</p><p><strong>Day 4: Trekking Congo Mountain Gorillas within Virunga National Park</strong></p><p>On this day you will have your second gorilla trekking adventure, this time in Virunga National Park. Briefing and registration takes places in Bukima Ranger Post where you will meet other trekkers waiting to have their encounter with the gentle mountain gorillas. You might experience different terrain and vegetation while trekking the mountain gorillas here, and this lasts 1-5 hours before you finally come across the allotted gorilla group. One hour is provided to observe and take photos while asking any gorilla-related questions then get back to the Lodge for a proper and relaxed meal.</p><p><strong>Day 5: Climbing the iconic Mount Nyiragongo in Virunga National Park</strong></p><p>Enjoy breakfast early in the morning and later transfer for the registration as well as briefing at Kibati Ranger Post. Begin the ascent to summit of Mount Nyiragongo that lasts 4-6 hours while encountering verdant vegetation, several birds and animal species but while at the summit you will be mind-blown by the jaw-dropping views of the blazing peak. Dine and Camp at the Summit shelters, but look-out for the reddish and blazing views of the peaks at night.</p><p><strong>Day 6: Descending Mount Nyiragongo and transfer to the Town of Gisenyi.</strong></p><p>On this day you will enjoy a bush breakfast served at the Summit shelters before beginning descent to the starting point and this lasts 3-4 hours. The activity begins with registration to confirm that the tracking permits are authentic and valid, followed by a briefing by ranger guides who explain the trekking dos and don&#8217;ts, assign you to an allocated gorilla family, and accompany you throughout the activity. Tracking gorillas is a one-foot task, but it is both exciting and safe.</p><p>It lasts between 2 and 6 hours, depending on how far the gang has gone since they were last seen. Get a perfect welcome of the lush tropical forest and sunset vibe to your lodge for refreshment, dinner and a nap.</p><p><strong>Day 2: 1<sup>st</sup> Gorilla Trekking and Ibyiwachu cultural adventure.</strong></p><p>You will welcome this day with a hefty breakfast meal at the lodge and then drive to the park headquarters for registration, and the start of the Ultimate Gorilla trekking exercise. The ranger guides will explain the trekking rules and regulations, assign a Gorilla group, and then accompany you to the Jungle for the search. As you look out for the gorillas, pay attention to other residents that can come your way; notably the Olive baboons, Vervet monkeys, white and black Colobus monkeys among others, chimpanzees, a variety of birds, and the different forest mammals.</p><p>You will also identify the nests, and unique plant species during the search. Depending on how far the primates have moved, the search can last for roughly 2-6 hours, with a bonus hour for photography and other activities.</p><p>Afterwards, you will return to the lodge for refreshment and Lunch, followed by an afternoon cultural adventure. The Rwandese are not only hospitable people, but also educate visitors on the basics of rural life, dances, dress code and stories. After the encounter, you will return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and a nap.</p><p><strong>Day 3: Second Gorilla trekking tour.</strong></p><p>Welcome this day with hefty cup of coffee, before driving to the park headquarters for yet another day of encountering the Apes in their natural Habitat. You will track another gorilla group, with a unique setup, members and behavior. The park has over 10 Gorilla groups, from which one will be assigned to you at the briefing time. The trekking exercise lasts for about 2-6 hours, plus an additional hour for taking photos, studying the Gorillas, and interacting with the ranger guide. the search starts from where they were last seen, through the bushes, and hills, to where they are expected to be.</p><p>After gorilla trekking, you will return to the lodge for lunch and spend the following hours either relaxing at the lodge, on a guided nature walk or even exploring Musanze caves. End the day with dinner and overnight.</p><p><strong>Day 4: Departure &#8211; Kigali city tour. </strong></p><p>After a lip-smacking breakfast meal at the lodge, you will checkout for a drive to Kigali city. It is a 2-3 hours’ drive, with captivating views of the rolling hills, green plantations and scattered homesteads. This is the only savannah national park in Rwanda and its name originates from River Akagera which spans across the border of these two countries until Lake Victoria in Uganda.</p><p>Resident savannah mammals include Masai giraffes, rhinos, Zebras, hyenas, lions, buffalos, leopards, and antelopes like waterbucks, Topis and bush bucks. You will spot more hippos and crocodiles during a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, as well different bird species will also be spotted. These are gentle, but giant apes harbored in the mountainous ranges of the Virunga chain of mountains.</p><p>Rwanda hosts a quarter of their total world&#8217;s population in Volcanoes national park; northeastern region of the country. You will visit and track these relatives of yours in their natural habitat, uncovering their unique behaviors, family structure, feeding habits and so much more. It is an activity to always remember. Rwanda is beautified by rolling hills, green vegetation cover and seamless road network. The trip starts and ends in Kigali &#8211; Rwanda. Other additional activities include a city tour in Kigali, visiting the twin lakes and sight &#8211; seeing.</p><p><strong>Detailed gorilla tour.</strong></p><p><strong>Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, city tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.</strong></p><p>On this day, you will be picked by our company representative at the agreed point and time. The briefing then follows, with description about the trip, as well as other important details you ought to know. Ranger guides will welcome all guests, verify the trekking documents and state the trekking dos and Don&#8217;ts during a 30 minutes’ briefing session. A maximum of eight people will be assigned one habituated gorilla family, from which they will track for over 2-6 hours, depending on how far the gorilla family has moved.</p><p>The jungle is a cocktail of rugged hills, bushes, shrubs and tall trees, which you will have to go through to find the apes. There are other primates, birds and forest mammals that you will encounter during the search. You will spend an hour with the gorillas, taking photos and watching them play, feed and interact.
