4 Days Kidepo Wildlife & Cultural Safari

On this safari to Kidepo Valley National Park, you will encounter a wide array of wildlife within the park and then mix and mingle with Karamajong that live at the edge of this park. This destination is the most isolated national park in the pearl of Africa – Uganda and is well known for its splendid scenery and for being home to large herds of buffaloes in Africa.

A game drive in Kidepo national park exposes you to big mammals like lions, leopards, jackals, warthogs, zebras and giraffes with numerous birdlife and tree species like the Kigelia Africana among others. On this safari, you will get to tour around Kampala where you will visit the local markets like Nakasero, visit religious sites the Gadhafi mosques, Bahai temple and the Uganda Museum.

Detailed itinerary.

Day 1: Arrive and short city tour around Kampala.

Be picked from the airport on your arrival and transfer to Kampala where you will get involved in a short city tour. You will tour places like religious sites such as the Bahai temple, Rubaga cathedral, Namugongo martyrs shrine among others.

And after you will head to the central Nakasero market where fresh Ugandan fruits are sold, the Buganda Road handmade craft market among others and then finally enjoy the tour around the oldest museum in East Africa that is full of cultural and historical pieces. Thereafter, head to the booked hotel where the driver guide will brief you about a safari to Kidepo valley national park.

Day 2: Transfer to Kidepo valley National Park via Gulu city.

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at around 06:00hours and then transfer to Kidepo valley National Park, a journey that can last 10 hours’ drive. It will include several stopovers for stretching and viewing the beautiful plains and bustling highway towns. Stopovers can be made at roadside markets and a stopover in Gulu town for lunch at one of the best restaurants.

Kidepo national park covers an area of 1,442 Square kilometers covered with diverse wildlife and as soon as you enter the park premises, you will spot elephants, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, lions among others. The driver-guide will take you to booked accommodation site for your dinner upon arrival.

Day 3: Morning game drive and cultural encounters in the afternoon.

Wake up early and enjoy morning game drive in the plains of Kidepo national park where animals will be spotted such as Elephants, lions, zebras, buffalos, jackals, hyenas and antelopes such as bushbucks, Jackson hartebeest, oribis among others. The game drive will be done with a help of the park ranger guide who is well knowledgeable about the park.

The game drive will last for less than 4 hours and then head back to the lodge for a short break, mid breakfast and lunch. Proceed for cultural encounters at the edge of the park as you view different mammals, birds and interesting flora. Take a community walk to explore the Karamajong natives and then be entertained by their vibrant dances, music and drama.

Karamajong people have different things in common with the Masai and Turkana of Kenya in a way of keeping cattle the nomadic style. Purchase some handmade crafts displayed to support their livelihood, and after head back to the lodge through the park as you spot more wildlife.

Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala.

Have breakfast early enough to be able to reach Kampala on time, because of the long 10-12 hours’ journey. The journey involves several stopovers to stretch and view the beautiful scenery. You can have an option of visiting the Aruu falls but this will depend on the time of your scheduled flight. Enroute lunch will be served in Gulu city.

On arrival in the evening in Kampala, you will transfer to the airport in Entebbe where you will be dropped, thus marking the end of 4 days of Kidepo wildlife and cultural safari.
